2 Aug: Ramstein to Garmich Train Ride
We made it! Wow, we just didn't expect things to go so smoothly and quickly. Actually we made it 2 days ahead of schedule. Because we were early, I had to find a hotel room at Ramstein, everything was booked unless you didn't have kids ~ so dad told one of those "emergency white lies". When the kids found out that Dad was trying to tell an "emergency white lie" to get into a military hotel they wouldn't have any of that, quickly took a step back and decided we should go out and pay extra at a bigger hotel, like $200 a night. Ummmm---no. Despite my explanations, they just wouldn't have anything to do with being cupable to Dad. So, Mary and I decided we would strike out to Garmisch via train with post-most hurry. We received some excellent support from base RTT (Railway, Travel and Transportation) at Ramstien then hurried off to catch the train. The ride changed maybe 3 or 4 times and we only made one small mistake that only cost us 15 minutes and took us into Munich instead of getting off at Pasing. I can't tell you how weary the family was but it was difficult to stay up just to make sure we could change trains. Once we got out of Munich, the countryside was magnifico. Despite everyone being totally worn out after two days of travelling with 5 hours of sleep, we all woke up to see the countryside. You can see our weariness but yet still happy expressions as we entered into the Alps. Today, the 3rd is just hanging out and relaxing time. I'll let the pictures do the talking for our ride down to Garmisch.
