Dover Air Force Base, Delaware

Our Lodging

We made it to Dover DE in 11 hours, it was much quicker than we anticipated. We got two rooms at the "Eagles Nest" ~ officers quarters, for the whopping price of $26 per room, gotta love the Air Force prices. The rooms were large, clean and had all the amenities. I ran over to the terminal and tried to "check-in" and discovered that since Francie was over 10 years old she needed a dependent ID card. A small hurdle but really just an opportunity to excel and get her up to date with a current ID, something she needed. But until she had an ID card we couldn't fly or get signed up for the Ramstein Flights. We woke up refreshed and went over to the ID card center and were able to get both Wally and Francie ID cards without a hitch. Next, we headed over to the terminal and got everyone signed up on Space "A" or " available" which makes it "free" :-) Then we had breakfast at the Golf Course which is right across the street from the lodging. Breakfast was good ole American eggs, bacon and hash browns. With breakfast complete it was time for a cool dip in the base pool which was also right across the street from lodging. Mary remaining about living "the military life" and said she and both the kids missed living around the base, I think me too. Mary could actually go back in as Nurse and we could really enjoy it but Mary says she just doesn't have any passion for being in the military anymore. That, I understand completely. Sparrow hospital sounds good to me. After a couple hours of playing and swimming at the pool we headed over to the PX had lunch, got some dollars and picked up some international phone cards. While Dover AFB seems to be small AFB, its very compact and convenient. I was surprised that the busiest East Coast Space A terminal which was the most talked about point of entry and exit is relatively small, maybe 10000 sq feet. If we didn't have a vehicle, we could easily walk from point to point, everything is within 10 to 15 minutes. The whole family is excited and ready to go to Germany. Right now I think we may have to stay one more night to get a flight out. There are two flights with only 4 seats per going out today but tomorrow brings in three flights with a gazillion seats. So if we don't move out today then we'll escape the base and dine on some fresh seafood in Lancaster DE. Will post more tomorrow.

Looks like a blast! I like the pic with Wally by the pool. It is very Wally!! You have such a beautiful family. Can't wait to see the Germany pictures!!!

Hey Ray, I talked to the guy with the boat. He wants $1800. Dan's online looking up the value of the motor and boat (like blue book for boats). Waiting for your say since you are the expert. I know you said the boat is worth about $500 so let us know what to do next. Please email matingaragatz@gmail.com

Safe travels...
